Our Goal

"To move Auckland from good... to great"

A great community to enjoy living and working in

Our leadership is expressed by the following values:

  • Vision and flair
  • Professionalism
  • Accountability
  • Sustainability
  • Transparency
  • People first
  • Commercial
  • Balanced

We are Centrist in outlook, community; home owner and business friendly and we believe in getting the basics right.

We stand for:

  • Value for money and the lowest possible rates for Aucklanders
  • More effective and efficient governance of Auckland
  • Growing the economy of Auckland
  • A safe, clean and vibrant city
  • A complete holistic approach to the public transport and roading needs of Auckland and basic infrastructure
  • Great urban design, environment and heritage protection
  • A city that works for its residents and is action and people driven

Value for money and the lowest possible rates for Aucklanders by:

  • An initial "value for money" external evaluation of Council activities and culture
  • Rates increase being linked to the Council's audited rate of inflation. (Note this assumes no surprises on "opening the books")
  • Fairer rates based on a lower property value charge and a higher uniform charge component
  • Focussed and finite targeted rates for infrastructure - only if accepted by stakeholders
  • Less ratepayer burden - (including pro-active action for a greater share of tax revenue from central government to pay for additional legislated responsibilities and for leaky building costs)
  • Opening the books on Councils leaky building liability and reviewing the strategic approach taken
  • Sensible debt policies but only when a well formulated business case is established
  • Reviewing Metrowater charges to ensure they are kept as low as possible whilst maintaining a first class water and wastewater service.
  • Retaining Auckland's airport asset

More effective and efficient governance for Auckland by:

  • Optimising the governance of Auckland through sensible reform and cooperation and after public consultation
  • Ensuring basic services are right before embarking on major new projects
  • Reducing the bureaucracy and the number of Council committees and streamlining Council processes
  • Opening meetings for greater transparency unless justified as manifestly not in the best interests of ratepayers
  • Respect for private property and rights
  • Greater accountability from Council and its staff
  • Not tolerating "political correctness" in Council activities

Growing the economy of Auckland by:

  • Fostering, developing and sponsoring major events with demonstratable payback
  • A drive to reduced compliance costs where quality not compromised
  • More use of partnership models to leverage investments, utilising external experience and capital to improve effectiveness and timeliness of projects

A safe clean, vibrant city and region by:

  • Forging closer practical and working relationships with Police
  • A zero tolerance approach to graffiti and introduction of innovative ways to share responsibility for detection and elimination
  • Developing of a new "City Warden" concept as an extension of current compliance officer roles
  • Encouraging greater participation from all of Council and the public to improve safety and reduce crime- including the greater use of CCTV .
  • Increased surveillance of and penalties for littering
  • More sensible application and use of alcohol bans
  • Celebrating cohesiveness and pride in being a New Zealander and Aucklander foremost
  • Support advocacy for better air quality throughout the region

A holistic sensible approach to the public transport and roading and basic infrastructure needs of Auckland by:

  • Advocating for vastly improved public transport quality and quantity with single ticketing across all modes
  • Rail electrification
  • Promoting enhanced ferry services
  • Completing of State Highways systems 16 and 20
  • Protection of amenities of neighbourhoods and ensuring the interests of existing communities come before new communities are established

Great urban design and environment and heritage protection by:

  • Improved urban design and planning for a better built environment
  • Better enforcement of existing policies and regulations
  • District Plan reviews are focussed on achieving good outcomes rather than policy and regulations
  • Increasing the affordability of housing through sensible policies and planning
  • Developing a culture of sustainable thinking, practices and policies.
  • Encouraging heritage protection with appropriate policies and practices that are fairer than those presently used
  • Encouraging tree planting through setting targets and the development of encouraging policies
  • Encouraging private contributions to public amenities and places (particularly artworks)
  • Supporting a vibrant, mixed-use development of Wynyard Point to provide a place where Aucklanders can live work and play.
  • Working toward a network of local, urban and regional parks to provide recreation places for Aucklands growing population.
