Auckland Regional Council

Elected

Councillor BARNETT, Michael

Auckland has the potential to showcase world class infrastructure, public transport, environment and amenities. With effective regional leadership and politicians who are solution providers and passionate about our region we can achieve this.

My last term was focussed on completion of our transport network to make it easier for people, goods and services to move around our region. My major time commitment was the "Metro Project" which is an economic development initiative focussed on regional leadership, infrastructure, governance, tourism, people and skills, innovation and exports, and promoting diversity as an asset for our region.

I am passionate about Auckland, am CEO of the Auckland Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Equal Opportunities Trust and Chair of the Auckland Children's Christmas Parade Trust.

I am married, have 5 children and a mortgage.

I would appreciate your support for me and the C&R Team: Judith Bassett and Clive Carter.

Councillor BASSETT, Judith Ola

Aucklanders deserve effective regional government: fair rating policies that deliver value for money. We all need cleaner air and water, and a regional parks network that matches Auckland's growth. I chair Auckland Regional Holdings which holds the regional investment assets. Income from those assets contributes to public transport and stormwater infrastructure.

I am a committed Aucklander, born here and living here all my life. I am a graduate of the University of Auckland in History and Law. Currently I am a member of the City Libraries Heritage Trust.

Before election to the ARC in 2001, I chaired the ASB Trusts for 14 years and understand the needs of the regional community. I was awarded a QSO for Community Service in 1991.

I am married with two adult children and two grandchildren.

I would appreciate your support for me and the C&R Team: Michael Barnett and Clive Carter.

CARTER, Clive

LL.B (Victoria). Practicing law, consultant at Carter Atmore Law. Proud family man, especially proud of son Hamish Carter (NZ Olympic gold medallist).

Former Crown Counsel Hong Kong, and President of Hong Kong New Zealand Business Association. Member, Auckland City Council 20:20 Committee (encouraging trade with Southern China).

The Regional Council's role in conserving Auckland's special environment is vital to our quality of life. I will support its environmental and planning activities so that the special character of the isthmus is preserved.

I will also offer sound governance experience in dealing with Auckland's needed infrastructure improvements. Stormwater and transport (especial public transport solutions) are at the top of this list.

I would appreciate your support for me and the C&R Team: Michael Barnett and Judith Bassett.

RANKIN, Christine

Christine loves the North Shore.

A tireless campaigner she believes that action is required right now on a range of issues.

"We must have the best alternative harbour crossing possible" she says. "Urgent decisions are required now and we must complement this with projects such as the Western Ring Route".

Ratepayers are suffering under the excessive weight of local government bureaucratic nonsense. "I will challenge this" she say's.

24 years of public service experience, during which she led and managed major change processes.

"There is currently mass duplication and a seeming lack of a customer service ethic" she says.

A North Shore girl through and through. Christine attended Rangitoto College, raised her two boys on the Shore, and runs her leadership and Media Training business from Takapuna.

She is also CEO of For Sake of Our Children Trust an anti-child abuse organisation and board member of the Lollipop Foundation.
